The National Police Together with the TNI Will Formulate the Best Security Pattern in Papua
The Indonesian National Police (Polri) will immediately formulate the best security pattern with the TNI to create security and public order in Papua.
According to the Assistant Chief of the National Police for Operations (Asops) Inspector General Pol. Imam Sugianto, the security pattern will be formulated with the TNI in December 2021.
"We will coordinate further with the TNI to formulate the best pattern to solve (the problem in) Papua," Imam said when confirmed in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Imam explained that currently in Papua there is already a Nemangkawi Operations Task Force (Satgas) involving TNI personnel and members of the National Police who are tasked with securing the Earth of Cendrawasih.
However, said Imam, the operating period of the Nemangkawi Operations Task Force will end in December 2021. However, the operating period will be extended for another 3 months.
Imam claimed that the Nemangkawi Operation would have a new pattern of handling in early January 2022 when the task force's operating period was extended.
“Starting early January 2022, we will structure a new operation. Of course, with the pattern that we will formulate in December with the TNI," he said.
Previously, Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives Abdul Kharis Almasyhari said that the candidate for TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa wanted to use military diplomacy and a humanist approach in solving problems in Papua.
This, he said, was revealed when General Andika conveyed his vision and mission as a candidate for the TNI Commander in the feasibility test at Commission I of the DPR RI.
“What will be done to change the perception of Indonesia from the problems that have been related to Papua, as if Indonesia is in the wrong position. Apparently, it is not militaristic forces that will be deployed, but instead wants to prioritize military diplomacy," said Abdul Kharis in the Four Pillars of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly with the theme New TNI Commander and Challenges to the Resilience of the Republic of Indonesia, Monday (8/11).
General Andika, said Abdul Kharis, stated that he never considered all Indonesian citizens as "enemies".
Abdul Kharis said that General Andika could not possibly consider him an “enemy” if he wanted to resolve issues in Papua in a friendly manner to reduce distortions and actions.
He was pleased with General Andika's statement and commitment in solving problems in Papua with a humanist approach.
“My question is are you going to apply it to all potential riots or to potential rioters? (General Andika answered) 'yes, I have to be fair to all'. That's what I noted well," he said.
