KSP: President Jokowi Directs Approach to Indigenous Territories to Accelerate Development in Papua

The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) reminded local governments in Papua Province to accelerate development in mountainous areas with an indigenous territory approach, in line with President Joko Widodo's instructions.

KSP Main Expert Theo Litaay when receiving an audience from the Regent of Deiyai ​​Papua Ateng Edowai, at Bina Graha Jakarta, Tuesday, stated that currently there are still several obstacles, namely data collection on development priorities and industries that will be carried out by the Deiyai ​​Regional Government.

According to Theo in a KSP press release, Deiyai ​​Regency is a district resulting from the division of Paniai Regency, Papua Province with a population of 91,138 people.

Several development plans for 2021-2023 include river ports, development of tourist destinations, improvement of the Trans Papua road, hospitals and health centers, as well as construction of lake docks and self-help teachers' housing.

"Those programs need to be coordinated with the central government through relevant ministries/agencies so that they can be accelerated, and KSP will facilitate them," said Theo.

Theo explained that since the beginning the KSP was formed, it has focused on the issue of equitable development in Papua. He is also optimistic that development in Deiyai ​​Regency will not only reduce inequality between regions in Papua Province, but also encourage the spirit of development in all corners of the country.

At the same time, KSP also received an audience from the Chairperson of Commission II of the Papua DPR, Mega Mansye Nikijuluw. On that occasion, KSP asked the council members in Papua Province to assist the local government in solving problems quickly for all development constraints in all sectors.

"The President has instructed that the acceleration of the transformation of the Papuan economy based on customary areas from upstream to downstream must be carried out in an integrated manner. The role of the DPRP is to oversee and assist local governments," said Theo.
