Meosmanggara Village, Raja Ampat, West Papua, develops species tourism
The Reef Check Indonesia Foundation encourages the people of Meosmanggara Village, Raja Ampat Regency to develop community-based species tourism or WSBM.
Head of Meosmanggara Village, Yambres Mambarasar in Waisai, Sunday, said the Reef Check Indonesia Foundation or YRCI first initiated a sustainable community-based species tourism program to encourage young people to be actively involved in the tourism sector.
With the program, he said, the younger generation of Meosmanggara Village can take the opportunity as local tour guides since 2020.
The program is expected to improve the economic welfare of the people who take advantage of the natural potential for tourism activities.
It is said that this program is a project of the Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Management Program - Coral Triangle Initiative or COREMAP -CTI which is managed by the Indonesia Climate Change Trust Fund with the National Development Planning Agency.
Programs for the development and strengthening of species-based community tourism businesses such as Coral Sharks and Manta Rays as tourist attractions that have a direct impact on the community's economy and conservation efforts.
According to him, this program includes tour packages to see species such as Manta Rays and Reef Sharks, and various types of fish offered to tourists, especially domestic tourists who want to enjoy the underwater beauty of Raja Ampat.
"This tour will have its own route which will then be juxtaposed with the route of Raja Ampat's favorite destination, namely Piaynemo," he added.
