OBSTACLING DEVELOPMENT IN PAPUA, KKB DESERVES TO BE CALLED THE PREMANISM GROUP

The security disturbances carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the Papua region continue to be in the spotlight. One of the development researchers in Puncak Regency, Edward GM, in his statement revealed that the KKB should be armed thugs who have caused unrest for the community.
“They (KKB) are no different from the behavior of thugs, they can even be called armed thugs. They have created fear and discomfort for the residents in Puncak. Moreover, the existence of the KKB has disrupted the daily lives of the residents there.”

Edward said that the acts of thuggery that KKB always carried out were not without reason. According to him, the actions of residents to be willing to hand over a number of goods and basic materials as well as money to KKB had often occurred.

"Every time something like that happens. Residents had to hand over money, goods and food, some were even asked to hand over their pet pigs. It must be done, if the residents refuse, there will be threats and even acts of violence.”

Edward also added that the existence of the KKB in Puncak Regency has also had a wide impact on their daily lives. This is because development efforts initiated by local governments must be hampered by their implementation.

“Several times the government wants to make very good programs. If you look at the benefits, everything is very good. But with the interference from the KKB, everything became hampered, because suddenly there was a refusal, suddenly there was a threat, and there was a demand for some money.”

In fact, developments that are intensified by local governments, such as the fulfillment of internet/telecommunication network access or subsidies for the procurement of basic necessities, can raise people's welfare if used properly.

With acts of threats, extortion, and deprivation of the rights of the residents there, this KKB is tantamount to thuggery, not as a fighter for the Papuan people who have been referred to in the name of the liberation of Papua.

"Yes, the government must act and act decisively against them because this is contrary to the applicable law," he said.
