Papuan Police Asked to Completely Investigate Alleged Corruption Cases in Papua
The Regional Police or the Papuan Regional Police were asked to investigate allegations of corruption in Papua.
The request was made by one of the Papuan traditional leaders, Herman Yoku. He is the chief of a large tribe in the Keroom Regency.
“I am firm in conveying several things that are noted, especially to the Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Mathius Fahkiri, to immediately take action on cases of alleged corruption in Papua. Whether it's PON XX funds, Special Autonomy funds or Covid-19 funds," Herman Yoku said in a written message received by the editor of Metro Merauke, Tuesday night (11/23/2021).
According to him, corruption has become increasingly prevalent in Papua. He hopes that the Papuan Police Chief is serious in handling law enforcement, which is related to allegations of corruption.
Because, the Kapolda is present as a servant of the state and protector of all Papuan people.
"I have a presumption that the Regional Police Chief cannot take firm action against those who commit crimes of corruption, which are detrimental to the Papuan people," he said.
He said the Papuan Police Chief must immediately investigate all suspected corruption cases, especially the use of XX PON funds, Special Autonomy funds, and Covid-19 funds.
He said that if there was an impression of omission, the people would suspect that there was involvement of law enforcement officers behind the alleged case.
“Mr. Kapolda must protect the people, because the people have suffered when the Special Autonomy funds are rolled out. They never feel the benefits," he said.
Herman Yoku also asked the National Police Chief to take firm action, if there are elements in the Police ranks trying to protect suspected perpetrators of criminal acts.
"A few days ago, I received information about the alleged involvement of officials in Papua Province in the use of Covid-19 funds, approximately Rp. 6 billion. It turned out that the case was suddenly stopped,” said Herman Yoku.
He also questioned what was behind it. Allegedly there are trillions of funds that are not accounted for also suffer the same fate.
If the allegations are true, the public will no longer trust law enforcement in Papua. The parties in Jakarta were also asked not to try to protect suspected elements in Papua.
"Because it seems as if there is flirting between Jakarta and unscrupulous elements in Papua, so that they are given protection, security, guarantees and so on. In the end they are safe and sound.”
Herman Yoku continued, if you think that the Papuan people are Indonesian citizens, the state must be present to protect them.
Highlight Cases of Violence in Mountain Regions
Herman Yoku also highlighted several cases of violence in the highlands of Papua, for example in Kiwirok District, Bintang Mountains Regency some time ago.
He argues, the attitude of the Papuan Police Chief seems as if there is no problem. Whereas the Kapolda should provide special protection and attention in law enforcement, against groups that commit crimes.
This is because they destroy people's lives in Papua, especially in areas that are in conflict areas.
"This should have the presence of the police as an instrument of the state, and the state's kamtibmas. If the TNI is the guardian of the state's sovereignty, the police are the state's kamtibmas," said Herman Yoku.
He questioned why recently there was conflict in Papua. Areas in the mountainous region continue to experience security disturbances.
“Kamtibmas cannot be brought under control. What happened during this? There are indications that there is a game of political interest to create a conflict just to sell interests," he said.
He said, as a tribal chief, he asked the Papuan Police Chief to act decisively indiscriminately, so that it was truly considered to be present to protect citizens.
"If you are not present as a statesman, you are also considered to have killed your own people. I ask the Chief of Police for this. As law enforcement, show your statesmanship to the Papuan people, so that corruption cases in Papua are eradicated. Clean Papua from corruption cases," he said.
