BI says Omicron has little impact on the Papuan economy

The Representative Office of Bank Indonesia or BI Papua Province estimates that the Covid-19 variant of the Omicron will not have too much impact on the economy on Cenderawasih Earth.

Head of the BI Papua Representative Office, Naek Tigor Sinaga said the Omicron variant would not have much impact if the public remained disciplined in implementing health protocols.

"If people continue to be disciplined in health protocols and vaccinated, the impact will not be as severe as at the beginning of the pandemic," said Naek in Jayapura, Thursday (12/30/2021).

According to Tigor, the impact of the Omicron will not be as severe as when the Covid-19 pandemic started in Indonesia, especially Papua.
 
"In the beginning there was a pandemic, the stock price index fell, foreign funds left Indonesia, the exchange rate fluctuated and so on," he said.

He explained that this caused the economy to slump even more than minus five percent and then there was a wave of delta variants.

"But society is adapting well so omicron won't have as bad an impact as at the start of the pandemic," he said.
 
He added that BI also predicts that there will be national economic growth at the national level, namely four to five percent and has increased more than the 2021 period.
