Government Urged to Reveal 10 Alleged Cases of Corruption in Papua
The Head of Regional Tribes in Keerom Regency, Herman Yoku, urged the central government to immediately reveal 10 corruption cases in Papua Province, as previously conveyed by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD in March 2021.
“Menkopolhukam several months ago said that there were 10 major corruption cases in Papua that would be uncovered. My question is, is that statement correct and how far has it been handled?” said Herman Yoku, Monday (06/12/2021).
He admitted that he was pessimistic about the statement that had made people in Papua feel they had the upper hand. Meanwhile, for suspected corruption, it is a serious threat. "I have doubts, there should be no eye play, the triangle between the city, province and central districts, which is called the golden triangle of the government circle, so that it disappears (the alleged corruption case)," he said.
If the statement from the state official cannot be followed up or proven, continued the Papuan traditional leader, it is certain that there is a scenario deliberately played by the government, whatever form it takes.
"I can confirm there is a certain game. There is a big scenario played by Jakarta by only making statements, promising, and also giving the wind of heaven," he said.
He doubts that the alleged corruption case will be investigated. “There are efforts to protect officials in Papua. Because they (the central government) can also be suspected of getting deposits from these cases, then the news is closed," he continued.
According to him, if it is only in the form of reporting in the media with the aim of heating up the Papuan people, it is better (news of 10 major corruption cases in Papua) should not be published in Jakarta.
On the other hand, Herman Yoku asked law enforcement officials to investigate the alleged misuse of funds for the XX National Sports Week (PON) which was chaotic. "(Management) of funds in PB PON XX is not clear," he said.
The allegation of fraud is based on the large number of demands for payment of arrears and the rights of volunteers, journalists, medical volunteers and other third parties have not been paid.
"While the funds are so large, where are they (funds)? Accountability is not clear, but why is Jakarta silent?” he said.
The member of the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) from the Indigenous Working Group, asked President Joko Widodo to immediately order the Chief of the National Police, the Attorney General's Office, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to carry out investigations against the XX Papua PON Large Committee.
"Where is the law?, not only in Jakarta, but not in Papua," he said.
He questioned the position of Governor Lukas Enembe who was silent during the alleged corruption case of Papuan PON funds. "The world recognizes (the implementation of PON XX), but in fact cases such as volunteer fees are jammed, why is the Governor of Papua silent?" Herman asked.
According to him, Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe and Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri should not remain silent about the PON issue and other alleged corruption cases, but together with the Head of the Papuan High Court, Nikolaus Kondomo, enforce the law together.
Herman Yoku reiterated that 10 alleged cases of major corruption in Papua should be opened in the media before the turn of the year. "If I see no realization in December or until early 2022, I think Jakarta is flirting with officials in Papua. Papuans don't believe anymore. That's my statement," he concluded.
