Jayawijaya Regency Government ensures stable food prices ahead of Christmas
The Regency Government (Pemkab) of Jayawijaya, Papua Province has ensured the stability of the prices of nine basic commodities (sembako) ahead of Christmas and New Year.
Head of the Jayawijaya Department of Manpower, Industry and Trade, Lukas Kossay, in Wamena, Friday, said the staff had been directly monitoring prices on the market.
"There has not been an increase in the price of goods on the market. The price level is still the same, so people don't have to worry about the stock of goods," he said.
He added that prices did not increase because distributors were able to smoothly load goods from Jayapura via cargo flights or the Trans Papua route.
In addition, although traders are aware not to sell expired goods, they still check in the field to ensure that the community's needs are safe for consumption.
"Usually our traders make an inventory of expired goods themselves, withdrawn from circulation or handed over to us for destruction," he said.
Previously, the cargo airline confirmed an increase in the transportation of groceries ahead of Christmas and New Year.
Other goods that are also transported to the interior of Papua are packaged drinks or canned drinks and chicken meat.
