KKB Papua's cunning tactics revealing Kopassus-style clothes, evidence of red berets and PDL clothes

The cunning tactics of the armed criminal group (KKB) who disguised themselves as members of the special forces command (Kopassus) were finally exposed.

The disguise was revealed after joint TNI-Polri troops arrested Adi Rawai alias AR (27) in Yapen Islands Regency, Papua on Thursday (9/12/2021).

During the arrest, officers confiscated one chainsaw, one badik-badik, one bayonet, three machetes, one homemade weapon, one red beret, one striped PDL pants, one striped PDL shirt, one long-sleeved shirt.

Then, one tactical shirt with the morning star flag, one black jeans, one red clutch, one small morning star flag, one headband with the morning star flag, one green strap.

Next, one pin with a bird picture, one booklet “Orasisuei”, one notebook, one referendum book, one family contribution card, one written book, and one small ruler.

"Joint TNI-Polri personnel managed to secure one person suspected of being involved in the Armed Criminal Group," said Head of Public Relations of the Papuan Police, Kombes Pol. Ahmad Musthofa Kamal in a release received by the editors.

Kamal explained that there was a militancy movement carried out by KKB in Kampung Tua, Kosiwo District, Yapen Islands Regency.

From the results of the investigation, prevention was carried out by carrying out joint patrols of the TNI-Polri personnel from the 1709 Yawa Kodim and the Yapen Islands Police.

From December 8 to 9, 2021, there was a gun battle between KKB members and the joint team.

"When the joint team was on patrol, the team was fired upon twice by the Armed Criminal Group, so the team returned fire and a gunfight broke out," he said.

From the gunfight, a number of KKB personnel fled into the forest, then the team continued patrolling to the arrest location at the top of the mountain and arrested AR.

Police confirmed that no one was injured in the gunfight that took place.

"The team secured the perpetrators and evidence to the Yapen Islands Police for further legal proceedings," he said.

For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with treason on the basis of LP/176/XII/2021/SPKT I/RES YAPEN on 9 December 2021.

The alleged articles are 106 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 110 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

In the regulation of the article, the threat of imprisonment is life imprisonment or a maximum imprisonment of 20 years.

Reason for Shooting with KKB

The Head of the General Information Section (Kabagpenum) of the National Police Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan said that the ongoing gunfights between security forces and armed criminal groups (KKB) in Papua were a form of self-protection.

Ramadhan emphasized that the action was taken because of an attack by the KKB on the officers on duty.

"The gunfight that took place by the police was under attack, of course there was a firefight because of the situation with our officers," said Ramadhan at the National Police Headquarters, Jakarta.
