Meeting with the Army Chief of Staff, the Vice President Discusses the Handling of Welfare in Papua

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin met with the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Dudung Abdurachman at the Vice President's Palace, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (1/12/2021).

In the meeting, both of them discussed the handling of Papua's welfare.

Currently, Vice President Ma'ruf is the Chair of the Steering Committee of the Integrated Coordination Team for the Acceleration of Welfare Development in the Provinces of Papua and West Papua.
 
Spokesperson for the vice president Masduki Baidlowi said the Army Chief of Staff conveyed to the vice president his plan to take a humanistic approach to security in Papua. This was also appreciated by the Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

"The vice president really appreciates the idea put forward by the Army Chief of Staff, which will be carried out in a more humane manner," said Masduki in his press statement after the meeting.

Masduki said that the humanistic approach conveyed by the Army Chief of Staff could attract public sympathy.
 
By doing so, it can also simplify the process of approaching security for the Papuan people.

"This approach has a perspective that can build an atmosphere of peace and intimacy in Papua," he said.
 
In addition, a territorial or area-based approach will also be carried out with the aim of being right on target to the community.

The territorial approach, he said, was based on the Kodim, Koramil to Babinsa.

"The vice president also strongly agrees," said Masduki.

According to Masduki, the idea put forward by General Dudung is in line with the thoughts of Vice President Ma'ruf.

Likewise with the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General Andika Perkasa, who also met and discussed similar matters some time ago.
 
Masduki gave an example of the approach that the Army Chief of Staff will take, namely approaching the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).

They will be embraced as an effort to realize a welfare and security approach for Papua.
