Religious Leaders Alluded to the Escalation of Papuan Separatist Conflicts to Rise in December
The development of the situation in the Papua region related to the separatist conflict is considered to be starting to increase, this is inseparable from the incident on December 1 celebrations and also the brutal actions carried out by separatist groups.
One of the Religious Leaders of the Central Highlands of Papua, Rev. Yohanes Wakerkwa, in a statement is known to have regretted the situation. He admitted that he was quite worried even though the majority of the population in Papua were preparing to celebrate Christmas.
"I deeply regret the situation that has occurred in Papua recently, even though we all know that Papua is celebrating Christmas because the majority of the population in Papua is Christian," said Rev. Yohanes Wakerkwa as quoted from the Papua Info Journal, Wednesday morning (08/12). )
Rev. Yohanes also expressed his opinion so that all parties who are in conflict can exercise restraint together so that the conflict will not be prolonged. He urged the separatist groups not to make excuses, because according to Rev. Yohanes, any conflict originating from a separatist group would definitely bring about crackdown on the security forces.
"So together we can agree that we don't want to be confused by the current situation. One party must be able to restrain himself so that the other party does not have to make great efforts, the conflict must be resolved and not brought up, it will not be finished later, "
“If something goes wrong, it is certain that the security forces will take action, so I emphasize more that the separatist group can exercise restraint. I also don't mind revealing that it can be said that the separatists are indeed the source of the conflict," he said.
Seeing the dynamics that occur due to the ongoing threat actions carried out by separatist groups, Rev. Yohanes again asked all people in Papua not to be easily influenced by the actions of separatist groups. He emphasized that the presence of December is a time of love and must be respected.
"At least we don't need to be influenced anymore, just let the separatist groups get busy. As ordinary people, we are being blessed with the presence of December as a moment of peace, let us all respect and celebrate with joy, "
