Spokesperson for Komnas TPNPB OPM: Papuan Officials Who Corrupt the Special Autonomy Fund Are Just Sentenced, They Are Viruses

Spokesperson for the National Command (Komnas) of the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) for the Free Papua Organization (OPM) Sebby Sambom proposed strict enforcement of Papuan officials who are indicated to have committed criminal acts of corruption, immediately arrested.

Sebby continues to monitor various events in Papua, including the activities of public officials through reports in the media.

"Unscrupulous Papuan officials who are corrupt with Special Autonomy funds, just arrest them, they are a virus that makes the people of Papua miserable," said Sebby Sambom, Tuesday (12/14/2021) night.

He emphasized that bureaucratic and government officials should not take cover behind the struggle for West Papua's independence in the action of embezzling the Special Autonomy budget. "Don't take refuge from the word merdeka when the special autonomy funds are misused," he said.

Last week, Lambert Pekikir, the former Commander of the National Liberation Army (TPN) of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) in Keerom Regency, asked the authorities to take firm action against corruptors in Papua.

Lambert explained that if the corruptors who had been misappropriating people's money were not arrested, they would continue to finance armed groups in Papua. KKB uses corruption funds to buy weapons abroad. Once they get the weapons, the KKB is free to make trouble and protect the corrupt.

As a result, the Corruption Eradication Commission or other law enforcement officers do not dare to arrest corruptors protected by the KKB.

“Corruptors eat (profit) a lot, those in the forest don't realize that they can't get anything. And the KKB is only used, it is maintained neatly and systematically," said Lambert.

He promised that if the KPK investigated corruptors, together with other figures, it would guard and protect the anti-corruption agency. "KPK should not be afraid to go to Papua, we will escort the KPK when it catches the corruptors," he said.

At the same time, Lambert asked the government to reveal 10 major corruption cases in Papua as opened by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD in May 2021. "That what has been conveyed (Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs) must be proven," he said.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md said the government would thoroughly investigate 10 cases of alleged major corruption in Papua. Mahfud ensured that there would no longer be the assumption that there was corruption in the Land of Papua.
