Sufficient stock of meat in Mimika

The Livestock Service Office of Mimika Regency, Papua, stated that the supply of animal food or meat for the needs of the community for Christmas and the 2022 New Year is very sufficient. That way, the Mimika Disnak hopes that there will be no shortages that trigger price increases.

"Stocks of chicken meat, beef and chicken eggs are sufficient for the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Even since the XX PON until now, we have not experienced a shortage of meat and eggs," said Acting Head of Mimika Livestock Service drh Sabelina Fitriani in Timika, Saturday. (4/12).

In order to meet the demand for chicken and beef in the Timika and surrounding areas, Mimika still relies on supplies from Surabaya because local production is still low. As for chicken eggs, all rely on local production with a total production per day reaching 13.4 tons.

Sabelina said that until now the Mimika Disnak still prohibits the entry of chicken eggs from outside in order to protect the business continuity of farmers in Mimika. "Until now there is still an egg protection policy from outside, otherwise it means that local eggs cannot compete with eggs from outside. The main problem is that the price of feed continues to rise so that production costs will definitely increase," he said.

According to an agreement between the Disnak and the Mimika Poultry Farmers Association some time ago, the selling price of local chicken eggs per shelf is Rp. 55 thousand. Disnak Mimika hopes that the selling price of local eggs in Mimika will not experience a price spike during the Christmas period until the New Year of 2022. Moreover, some of the locally produced eggs in Mimika are sent to several neighboring districts in the interior of Papua.
