Inspirational Young Papua (PMI) fully encourages Onim - Sefa Village in Kais Darat District, South Sorong Regency, West Papua to become a pilot project for Sago tourism.
This was said by the Executive Director of PMI West Papua Province, Simon Tabuni, to Tribun-Papua.com Monday (6/12/2021).
"Considering the potential for sago tourism which has not been developed optimally, PMI has taken the initiative to encourage the development of sago in the Sago Kais Tourism District," he explained.
According to Simon, Sago Kais Tourism also aims to create jobs and markets for creative economy products.
"It can bring in regional income, prevent over-exploited sago forest, trade in birds, preserve the sago ecosystem, language and culture for future generations," he explained in detail.
Regarding the local community's response, Simon said that the residents of the Onim-Sefa preparation village themselves welcomed this.
"Even they (local residents), have provided land for the construction of homestays and tourist facilities," he added.
On that occasion, Simon detailed that later there would be 7 products sold at Sago Kais Tourism.
"The seven products offered are Sago Agrotourism, Sago Cultural Tourism, Sago Ecological Tourism, Sago Culinary Tourism, Sago Education, Hunting Tourism, and Research Tourism," he said in detail.
Currently, he said, the groundbreaking for the construction of the Sagu Kais Tourism Homestay has been carried out.
He hopes that the development of Sago Kais Tourism can succeed in the declaration of West Papua Province as a Sustainability Province Based on Indigenous Territories in Papua.
