Changes in TNI-Polri Approaches and Operations in Papua Get Appreciation

The change in approach and operations in dealing with conflict in Papua from a military approach to a humanist approach and prioritizing community welfare has received appreciation from the Indonesian Student and Millennial Alliance (AMMI).

AMMI Coordinator, Nurkhasanah, said that the government and security forces' steps that no longer prioritized the military approach were a good breakthrough in solving the problem of Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) or Separatist Terrorist Groups (KST) in Papua.

"I appreciate the change in approaches and operations in dealing with conflict in Papua. Such as the implementation of Operation Cartenz Peace from the Police and lastly equipped with Operation Rasaka Cartenz and the TNI returning to carry out their main tasks as in other areas, it is hoped that many KKB members can be educated and return to their homes. normal community environment," said Nurkhasanah in her statement, Friday (1/21/2022).

He also said that the handling of the conflict in Papua through a soft approach that puts forward a sense of humanity is proof of the government's seriousness in embracing the people with love in the lap of Mother Earth.

"With the method of the officers on duty no longer attacking the KKB beforehand, it is hoped that it can raise awareness from the public that the presence of the TNI-Polri on Cendrawasih Earth is purely to bring peace in order to maintain security and comfort for the Papuan people," he said.

However, Nurkhasanah regretted that while the security forces applied a humanist approach and prioritized the welfare of the people, there were still incidents of attacks by the KKB shooting TNI in Maybrat, West Papua which resulted in one soldier being killed and four others injured.

"We are disappointed with the KKB who continue to carry out violent attacks on members of the TNI, even though at that time the soldiers were on their way to the location of the bridge that was cut by the KKB, to rebuild a permanent bridge for village residents' access to the center of the city of Maybrat," he said.
 
Nurkhasanah hopes that by adopting a new way of acting and a new approach that prioritizes a humanist and preventive approach from TNI and Polri personnel, it will reduce victims due to the conflict on Earth of Cendrawasih, including civil society.

"Hopefully the security forces can work optimally so that they can answer the problems that occur in the Land of Papua, especially the disturbance of armed violence. In addition, it can increase the trust of the Papuan people towards the government," he said.
 
It is known that the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa conveyed a number of new policies regarding the handling of the Papua region. Among other things, ordering all TNI task forces in Papua to return to carrying out their main tasks and organic functions.

Meanwhile, the National Police also officially changed military operations in Papua from Operation Nemangkawi to Operation Peaceful Cartenz 2022 which operates in five areas prone to KKB attacks with operations promoting a preemptive and preventive approach.

Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Headquarters (Mabes) Police Brigadier General (Brigjen) Police Ahmad Ramadhan said the total combined personnel deployed in the Operation Cartenz Peaceful operation reached 1,925 personnel. He detailed that 1,825 of them are Polri personnel, while the other 101 are from the TNI.

In addition, the National Police also launched Operation Rastra Samara Kasih (Rasaka) Cartenz which was held in 23 areas of the KKB safe zone. This operation puts forward a persuasive and preventive approach that does not involve the Task Force and Law Enforcement, but is solely community development.
