Regent of Puncak Papua Asked for Active Communication with KKB Attacking TNI Post Gome

The security authorities in Papua are trying to reduce the armed conflict in Puncak Regency, Papua Province.

Previously, on Thursday (27/1/2022), the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) attacked the TNI post in Gome District, Puncak Regency, Papua. In the attack, three TNI soldiers died and one was critical.

One of the peaceful efforts to reduce the conflict was to ask the Regent of Puncak, Willem Wandik to re-communicate with the attacking group. The goal is to prevent the armed conflict from recurring there.

"Yesterday I called the Regent of Puncak to immediately establish active communication, we ask them not to take stupid steps whose impact will be felt by the community," said Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri in Jayapura, Friday (28/1/2022).
 
Meanwhile, Fakhiri revealed the perpetrators of the attack on the TNI Post in Gome District which killed the three soldiers. According to him, the mastermind behind the attack was the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) Lekagak Telenggen, which had been operating in the area.

"The perpetrators are still the same group (Lekagak Telenggen) that has been making noise in the Puncak area, feel sorry for their brothers and sisters who want to seek prosperity in their village," said Fakhiri.

His party regretted that the attack took place after conditions in the Puncak area were conducive in the last six months.

"This is very unfortunate, I as the Kapolda condemn the actions taken by groups who are always at odds with the government," he said.
 
Operation Cartenz Peace continues

Meanwhile, Fakhiri made sure that Operation Peaceful Cartenz was not affected by the attack. Fakhiri said that the concept of the welfare approach in the Cartenz Peace Operation would not change even though the KKB continued to carry out anarchic actions.

"This policy is a national policy, we are of course aware of the consequences for the casualties of our members. But we will never change the handling model," he said.

According to him, the Cartenz Peace Operation is a routine activity of the regional police whose intensity will be increased in the aspect of prevention and development. There will be five districts that will become the target of implementing the program, namely Puncak, Intan Jaya, Yahukimo, Bintang Mountains and Nduga Regency.
 
Previously, the KKB attacked the Gome TNI post during a change of guard on Thursday at around 05.00 WIT. The attack caused Serda Rizal and Private Tupas Barazza to die as a result of being shot.

Gunfire took place for several hours until the two victims were finally evacuated to the Ilaga Health Center.

After evacuating the victims, KKB attacked again and caused Pratu Rahman to die with gunshot wounds and Private Saeful was critical.
