Distan Jayawijaya rehabilitates 100 hectares of coffee plantation

The Jayawijaya Regency Agriculture Service, Papua Province, in 2022 will program the rehabilitation of 100 hectares of coffee plantations owned by residents which have been neglected for years.

Head of the Jayawijaya Distan, Hendri Tetelepta in Wamena, Wednesday said the source of the budget was from the provincial government.

"At that point we are waiting for the budget implementation document (DPA) from the new province, we can determine the location," he said.

He ensured that the demand for Jayawijaya coffee in the market was quite high, but production was limited, so that production continued to be pushed.

"To support this demand, we must continue to expand the area, by repairing damaged gardens," he said.

In 2021, coffee farmers in Jayawijaya managed to produce 165 tons of coffee beans. These results were obtained from 2026 hectares of coffee plantations.

"Wamena's unhulled coffee is sold for IDR 60-80 thousand, rice coffee for IDR 100-150 thousand per kilogram," he said.

Hendri said that non-governmental organizations, the TNI and the National Police also helped market Wamena coffee, including 11 coffee shops operating in Wamena.
