Theo Hesegem Intimidated for Straightening News of UN Human Rights Council Visit

Human Rights Activist Theo Hesegem received a bad reaction in the form of intimidation from a number of parties after his statement denied the news originating from the ULMWP as an independent Papuan organization regarding the presence of the UN Human Rights Council to Papua.

"It's not a good thing that I get after giving a statement regarding the false news voiced by the ULMWP. I was intimidated because of this action,” Theo said by telephone.

Theo admitted that he was disappointed with several parties, including one of the priests who tried to corner him, even though according to him the statement made was a fact related to the mechanism of the UN Human Rights Council.

"Of course I am disappointed with them, because my statement was not arbitrary. I'm talking about the facts, the UN Human Rights Council has a special mechanism to be able to be present in Papua, not at will, especially because there is a request from an organization," said Theo in response to a unilateral statement made by Pdt. Dorman Wandikbo.

As a prominent human rights defender in Papua, Theo feels there is a big responsibility in carrying out his mandate, he admits that he will continue to maintain his commitment to support the rights of every human being who is oppressed by interests.

“I am a human rights defender, it's not just me or you. We are all human beings with rights. Together with the foundation that I own, I have a commitment to support every human right regardless of background or interests,” said Theo Hesegem who is also the Executive Director of the Papuan Human Rights and Justice Foundation (Sedunia HAM Defender).

Theo added in his speech that Dorman Wandikbo should be able to reflect on the title as a priest that has been accompanied by him. According to Theo, as God's representative, Dorman should speak the truth, and not keep the lies that the ULMWP had built for a long time.

"I'm not talking about the struggle for Papuan independence, but I don't want the Papuan people to always be victims of lies and deception. This is related to human rights. Dorman should also be ashamed because he is a priest, it's not a good thing if what comes out of his mouth is a lie," continued Theo.
