KKB Shoots TNI-Polri Personnel During Residents Evacuation at Aminggaru Airport

The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) has again carried out terror in Puncak Regency, Papua. KKB opened fire on TNI-Polri personnel and burned residential areas in Omukia District and Ilaga District, Puncak Papua Regency.
Head of the Cartenz 2022 Public Relations Task Force Kombes Musthopa Kamal explained that the incident occurred on Sunday (20/2/2022) at around 07.00 WIT. At that time, joint personnel from the TNI-Polri were on their way to evacuate shooting victims from the Puskesmas to Aminggaru Airport in Omukia District, Puncak, using four-wheeled vehicles.

"Arriving at the airport, the joint TNI-Polri personnel were fired upon by the KKB from the top of the hill and the personnel immediately returned fire from the KKB," said Kamal in a written statement, Monday (21/2/2022).
 
Kamal said at around 09.20 WIT, the joint KKB, which is a group of NT, KM, LW, TK and TT, again set fire to two units of houses or honai belonging to the community in Nipuraleme village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency. Then, joint TNI-Polri personnel responded to the burning of the house.

"When personnel approached the location, gunfire was interrupted and there was a firefight between joint personnel and the KKB group which lasted from 09.30 WIT to 12.20 WIT," he said.
 
He said that at that time the joint personnel of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Polres, Polsek and Koramil were still surviving in the tower area evacuating people around the Kago Elementary and Middle School. At around 12.40 WIT, TNI-Polri personnel were involved in a shootout with KKB in the Aminggaru Airport area.

"At 12.45 WIT, there was a shooting that led to the Koramil Office carried out by the KKB group from the Jalan Pinggil position. After that joint personnel immediately took steps, namely securing Aminggaru Airport, evacuating people who were on the outskirts of Kago City, entering the And at 13:40 WIT, information was obtained that TNI-Polri personnel had taken control of the area around the Telkomsel BTS Tower, and KKB had retreated to Eromaga Village," he said.

Kamal explained that at 15.14 WIT, the joint team saw smoke rising which was followed by flames in the housing area of the Gome State Vocational School. One unit of the house caught fire and when binoculars were carried out, two residents suspected of being KKB were seen, one of whom was holding a long-barreled weapon.

"It should be noted that the Armed Criminal Group in Puncak Regency is divided into three places, namely in the area of Aminggaru Airport, Nipuraleme and Jalan Pingli, where the current KKB targets are not only security forces and migrant residents, but also OAP residents," said Kamal.
