Children in 8 Districts of West Papua Are Inoculated with Vaccines
The State Intelligence Agency (BIN) continues to improve the achievement of vaccination targets in the 4T region (remote, innermost, outermost and farthest). This effort is an effort to strengthen defenses to prevent the transmission of Covid-19, especially with the emergence of the Omicron BA.2 subvariant which is known to have a faster transmission rate.
The West Papua Regional BIN vaccination coordinator, Colonel Arh. Hendra said the vaccination was held in eight districts in West Papua. The priority targets for vaccination are children aged 6-11 years.
"Mass vaccinations continue to be intensified in 8 districts including South Manokwari, Sorong, Manokwari, Teluk Wondama, Kaimana, South Sorong, Teluk Bintuni and Fakfak," Hendra said in an official statement, Saturday, March 19, 2022.
He said vaccination was aimed at reducing the risk of serious illness and death from Covid-19. In addition, the program is expected to be able to reduce the Covid-19 positivity rate to below five percent, according to WHO standards.
"New variants of Covid-19 can exist anywhere and anytime, so that BIN will aggressively continue to carry out vaccinations so that herd immunity can be formed in the community. Including the target group of children aged 6-11, they are vulnerable because they are always in a crowd, whether in the midst of family, friends, and school. They must also be vaccinated immediately," said Hendra.
Hendra believes, if the vaccine achievement in Indonesia reaches 100 percent of the government's target, the restrictions on the application of community activities (PPKM) will be further relaxed, people can return to their activities, the economy will roll on, social and religious activities can be more lively.
