Again, KKB Shoots at Police Posts Then Burns Mines in Paniai Papua

An armed criminal group (KKB), Sunday morning at around 05.35 WIT shot and set fire to a mining site in Baya Biru District, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua.

Intan Jaya Police Chief AKBP Abdus Syukur acknowledged that KKB had attacked several mining sites in the Baya Biru District.

“Indeed, there were reports of security disturbances by KKB, but there were no casualties. From the reports received, it was revealed that 15 houses or panning camps were burned, scattered in locations 81 and 45," said Abdus Syukur.

In addition to the shelters for burning miners, there are also puskesmas and teacher housing estates. Abdus admitted that he had not been able to send personnel to the location because there were no direct flights to Baya Biru from Enarotali, the capital of Paniai Regency.

Members of the Paniai Police Station will be shifted to Nabire by road and if there is a flight to Baya Biru, they will be flown. It is possible that new personnel will be flown on Monday (22/3) to Baya Biru.

"In Pospol 99 Ndeotadi Baya Biru there are nine members of the Paniai Police, because one of them is still in Nabire," explained AKBP Abdus Syukur.

According to sources, the four members of the Baya Biru Police Post led by Bripka Surya carried out patrols around the 81 mine site. However, when they were about to return to the police station, the patrol group was ambushed by a group of KKB around incline 81 from the WIN direction.

No casualties in the incident, the patrol group stayed in area 81 waiting for dark to return to area 99.

It is estimated that the patrol group arrived in area 99 at around 19.00 WIT, not long after the patrol team arrived (approximately 30 minutes after arriving) there was a fire in area 81 and then another fire in area 45.

Baya Biru District is one of the gold mining areas in Paniai Regency.
