The Plan for the Expansion of Papua Province is Well Responded by the Community, Deputy Minister of PUPR: Towards a Better Papua Development
As an effort to improve the quality of development in the Papua region, the Government recently stated its plan to expand Papua Province into six administrative regions.
The six provinces proposed by the central government include Southwest Papua, West Papua, Central Papua, Central Mountains, South Papua, and Papua Tabi Saireri.
In response to this, the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) who is also a native Papuan, John Wempi Wetipo, said that the division of the province is believed to have a good impact.
"Therefore, I hope that whatever expansion is carried out, at least there will be a large umbrella to oversee all development processes that are taking place in Papua," said John as quoted from the Republika website on Saturday, February 12, 2022.
The big umbrella referred to in his statement is the urgency of the central government to form an authority body to coordinate all policies implemented in Papua, including those related to the expansion.
Furthermore, the Papuan son detailed several reasons why the division was decided, namely because of historical, cultural, economic and government factors as the basis for his opinion.
Support for the expansion of Papua province also came from the people of South Papua.
They gave their appreciation to the discourse on the expansion of the South Papua Province (PPS).
Efforts to expand PPS are expected to reduce the bureaucracy, so that an increase in service to the community will be realized.
The South Papua Province Expansion Plan (PPS) also received a good response from the people in Asmat and its surroundings.
