Vice President: Accelerating Development of Papua and West Papua, Needs Support from Various Parties

Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that the government continues to make efforts to accelerate development in the provinces of Papua and West Papua.

This acceleration can be seen from the draft of various regulations related to this program, including the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) on the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Development for Special Autonomy in Papua (BP3OKP) and the Presidential Decree on the Master Draft for the Acceleration of Development for Special Autonomy in Papua 2021-2041 (RIPPP).

Therefore, the Vice President emphasized that in order to make the acceleration program a success, in addition to regulations, cooperation from various parties, including the West Papuan People's Council (MRPB), is needed so that the legal basis that has been issued can be implemented properly in the field.
 
"To accelerate the development of Papua, including in West Papua, this really needs optimal support from all parties, and (I) ask the West Papuan People's Assembly to help oversee the implementation of this acceleration. I mean by accelerating the development of special autonomy for Papua, especially in West Papua,” said Vice President (Vice President) Ma'ruf Amin when receiving a virtual MRPB hearing, Tuesday (01/03/2022).

The vice president also said that the MRPB as an organization consisting of representatives of the Papuan Indigenous People (OAP) consisting of elements of adat, religion, and women, was asked to consistently disseminate government policies that had been designed to all levels of society.

“It is also proactive in conducting outreach to all levels of society regarding the government's affirmative policies. The government has made a decision, is determined to give affirmation to OAP, the Orang Asli Papua. This has been stated both in the law and in its implementing regulations. This includes elements of the OAP that we ask to be socialized, elements that are still anti-NKRI," said the Vice President.

“So that they understand that the government has given various affirmations in order to give authority or enforcement to Papuan Indigenous People. Because we really want what the government is doing to give confidence in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the Indigenous Papuans," he added.

The Vice President also emphasized that the RIPPP, which is currently entering the final stage of harmonization, includes a combination of programs that have been designed by a combination of elements, both the central government, provincial and district governments, as well as the aspirations of the OAP represented through the MRPB and the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP). . He also illustrates, this is done so that all programs can be right on target and in accordance with the needs of the community.

"That's why we (the central government) provide the opportunity to obtain information or aspirations from the community other than the regional, provincial and district governments. I guess it is. Including today, it will be the material that will complete our preparation to make it more aspirational than the RIPPP that we planned," he said.

Closing the hearing, the Vice President again appealed to the MRPB to continue to disseminate affirmative policies that have been designed for the welfare of the people of Papua and West Papua.

"As a family, together we build. Everything is for the benefit of the Papuan people, in Papua," concluded the Vice President.

Previously, the General Chairperson of the MRPB, Maxsi Nelson Ahoren, conveyed the aspirations and inputs that had been summarized by the MRPB to the Vice President regarding efforts to accelerate welfare development in the provinces of Papua and West Papua. The aspirations conveyed covered the fields of Human Resources, (HR), budget, politics, and security.

"This opportunity is very good for us for the West Papuan People's Assembly to be able to convey our main thoughts and also there are several things that become our aspirations which we will convey later," said Maxsi.
