Mahfud said, the President's Letter (Surpres) regarding the Draft Law on the formation of new autonomous regions (DOB) has been submitted to the DPR.
The regents are also preparing to become candidates for governor in the new autonomous regions. On the other hand, Mahfud revealed that there were still only demonstrations that did not agree with the DOB.
"We just want to see later on the legal and political procedures, whether the constitutional procedures are correct or not now, if the question of opinion can be different.
That will be decided later," he explained.
For information, the DPR officially stipulates three bills related to the division of territory in Papua into a DPR initiative bill in the DPR plenary meeting on April 12, 2022. The three bills are the Bill on the Establishment of the South Papua Province, the Bill on the Establishment of the Central Papua Province, and the Bill on the Establishment of the Papua Province. The Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR approved three bills to be adopted as the DPR's initiative proposal, namely the South Papua Province Bill, the Central Papua Province Bill, and the Central Highlands Papua Province Bill. Baleg proposed that the naming of the new provinces be adapted to the customary territory of Papua.
