Papua Chamber of Commerce and Industry encourages the construction of a fish port in Biak Regency

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Papua encourages the construction of a fish port in Biak Regency to be carried out immediately considering that the place has the largest fish-producing potential in Papua.

The chairman of the Papua Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ronald Antonio Bonai, told Antara in Jayapura, Saturday, that the presence of a fishing port could boost the Papuan economy.

"The fisheries sector should be able to get up soon because Papua is one of the fish producers in Indonesia," he said.

According to Ronald, previously economic growth came from mining alone, but the presence of a fishing port will give it a new color.

"Which usually comes from mining alone, now the fishery sector can contribute to economic growth in Papua," he said.

He explained that the cost of building the port itself is around Rp. 85 billion usd, it can build a very extraordinary fish port.

"This is also the result of a trip to the BloombergNEF (BNEF) Net Zero Summit delegation, which through the Central Chamber of Commerce and the President's special staff will discuss further," he said.

He added that the COVID-19 pandemic could soon become endemic so that the economy in Indonesia, especially Papua, could recover and activities could return to normal as before.
