Shootout at Ilaga, 1 KKB Member Dies

One member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) reportedly died in a shootout that occurred around the Trikora field, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency, Papua, Friday (27/05/2022).

Head of Public Relations Ops Damai Cartenz Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal said the KKB member who died was identified as Lerinus Murib who was part of the KKB led by Bumunggur and Titus Murib.

"The shootout occurred when the personnel of the Cartenz 2022 Damai Ops Task Force carried out security patrols around the Trikora field, in which stone burning was being carried out," said Kombes Kamal, Monday (30/5/2022).

Kamal said, "While on patrol, our personnel were shot at, we shot back and after that it was discovered that one member of the KKB was shot,"

According to Kamal, based on information from personnel who were at the scene, the personnel confirmed the death of the member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) from the results of the residents' reports.

"However, the body of Lerinus Murib was brought by his colleagues after the gun battle was over and they burned it on Friday," said Kamal.

Kamal added, two days after the shootout, Sunday, May 29, 2022, residents found a body known as Yakianus around the scene of the gunfight, precisely at the KKB position.

"However, we are still investigating the youth's involvement with the Armed Criminal Group (KKB)," he said.
