The ADeM program helps Teluk Wondama students enter top schools

Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua this year received a quota of scholarship recipients for the Secondary Education Affirmation (ADeM) program for 10 students to be able to continue their education to the top high school / vocational school outside Papua.

Head of the Teluk Wondama District Education, Youth and Sports Office Jonathan Sembiring in Isei Wasior, Friday, said ADeM is a special scholarship program for outstanding Papuan Indigenous (OAP) students to continue their education to the SMA/SMK level at superior schools outside Papua.

This program is financed from the Special Autonomy Fund (Otsus) in each district/city.

The recruitment process for prospective ADeM scholarship recipients will be carried out through an open selection mechanism.

Sembiring guarantees that the selection will be carried out in a transparent manner.

"This year's ADeM quota is limited to only 10 people, so we are trying to make sure that all regions have representation. This information has been conveyed to all junior high schools throughout the Wondama Bay area, so that it can be enjoyed by everyone, not just a few," said Sembiring.

He said information related to the ADeM selection had been conveyed to all junior high schools/equivalents in Wondama to be further conveyed to students and parents of students.

Later, every student who is interested will be registered at their respective schools and then sent to the office to be included as a selection participant.

"So we leave everything entirely up to the school, parents and students about how to do this ADeM, so that they register for school. Later, the school operator who summarizes and is accommodated in the new service will be selected in a general way,” he explained.

Meanwhile, for the Higher Education Affirmation Scholarship (ADiK), Sembiring said that his party did not know how many quotas were given this year because they were still waiting for official information from West Papua Province.

However, information about ADiK has also been conveyed to every SMA/SMK to be announced to students and parents.

Just like ADeM, the determination of who is entitled to become a participant will be determined through an open selection mechanism.

Regarding the selection team, Sembiring said that the team members were not only from the internal education office but also involved representatives from the West Papua Provincial Education Office, as well as from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.
