Baliem Valley Tribal Chief Invites Residents to Keep Wamena Safe
Head of the Baliem Valley Tribe, Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua, Naligi Kurisi asked all parties to help maintain the situation in Wamena City so that it remains conducive. This is in response to various events that occurred in Wamena.
"There are many events that have occurred here, from the DOB demonstration to the case of the Brimob Diego Rumaropen murder. As a tribal chief, I ask all parties, let us keep Wamena together so that it remains safe and conducive," Naligi said in his statement, Friday ( 24/6/2022).
According to him, regarding the expansion or new autonomous regions (DOB), the government has approved the division of Papua Province into four provinces, with the addition of three new provinces.
So it should be supported so that its implementation can be in accordance with shared expectations.
"The governor has also agreed on the existence of division, so the pros and cons should be eliminated and let's equalize perceptions for the future development of Papua," he said.
Meanwhile, in the case of the murder of a member of Brimob, Brigadier Diego Rumaropen, this should be a lesson for all security forces, so that they do not be careless because lives could be lost.
The strict punishment given by the Papuan Police Chief to Danki Brimob who is suspected of violating the SOP should also be used as a valuable lesson. And the perpetrators must be immediately arrested and held accountable for their actions.
"We appreciate the strict punishment of the Regional Police Chief for the negligence of his subordinates. Hopefully in the future there will be no more like this. And hopefully the deceased's family will be given fortitude and patience," he said.
"Let's keep Wamena safe and peaceful, so that activities run well and do not harm us together," he said.
