MRP and DPRP Support the Expansion of Papua

Deputy Chairman of Commission II DPR RI Junimart Girsang said the leadership of the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP), Papuan DPR (DPRP), and Regional Secretary (Sekda) who represented Papua Governor Lukas Enembe supported the expansion of Papua. "It came last night (22/6) at the Commission II DPR RI Hearing Meeting with the leadership of the MRP, the Chair of the DPRP, and the Papuan Secretary (Regional Secretary) representing the Governor. They have provided input and said they strongly support the three provinces to be held," said Junimart at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (23/6).

Even so, continued Junimart, the three parties provided a condition that the expansion of Papua by forming three new provinces, namely South Papua, Central Papua, and Central Highlands Papua, must prioritize the welfare and empower the Indigenous Papuans (OAP).

In response to these requirements, Junimart said that prioritizing the welfare and empowerment of Papuan Indigenous People in the expansion of Papua is something that Commission II of the DPR RI pays attention to and strives for.

According to him, in the expansion of Papua, the Indigenous Papuans must indeed be empowered because they are human resources (HR) who understand and understand all the natural resources (SDA) owned by the region. Thus, the Indigenous Papuans need to be empowered to manage all existing natural resources properly.

“That is indeed our vision and mission. OAP must be empowered to be able to manage natural resources. Of course, they are human resources who understand the area,” said Junimart.

On the same occasion, Junimart said that currently his party is continuing to discuss three draft laws (RUU) regarding the formation of a new province in Papua in a working committee meeting which was held behind closed doors with the leadership of Commission I DPD RI and the Government.

The government elements involved in the meeting consisted of the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and the Indonesian Ministry of Finance. So far, Junimart conveyed that the Working Committee (Panja) for the Discussion of Three Bills for the Establishment of a New Province in Papua had submitted the draft bill to the drafting team (timus) and the synchronization team (timsin).

"The Panja has submitted the draft to thymus and timsin, so currently thymus and timsin are carrying out their duties to formulate and synchronize," he said.
