Based on the Survey of Papuan Youth Satisfied with Jokowi's Leadership

The high level of satisfaction of young Papuans with the performance of the government, especially the central government, confirms that Jokowi's leadership during his two presidential terms has succeeded in promoting the Nawa Cita program which focuses on caring for the people at large.

The third point of the Nawa Cita emphasizes the priority of the Jokowi government to develop Indonesia from the periphery, by strengthening regions and villages within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Such was the statement of the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Student and Millennial Alliance (AMMI), Nurkhasanah, in a press statement. AMMI's statement is in line with valid data revealed through the Kompas Research and Development survey held in Papua and West Papua in early March 2022.

Based on the survey, more than 63% of young respondents are very satisfied and satisfied with the performance of the central government.

According to Nurkhasanah, since the beginning of leading this country, Jokowi has been keen to use the efficacious recipe for development, which is not only to increase growth but also to spread equity.

“For a long time, President Jokowi has realized that the way of development that focuses on the trickle down effect, namely with development that is centered in urban areas, has failed. Shared prosperity will be optimally achieved by building from the periphery, from the region," he said.

President Jokowi, said Nurkhasanah, sees that unequal economic development in urban areas, as has been going on since the early 1970s, has created chronic inequality. This can be seen from the spatial structure of Indonesia's economy, which in the second quarter of 2015 was dominated by provinces in Java and Sumatra.

“Pak Jokowi is careful to see that the provincial group in Java contributes the most to gross domestic product (GDP), which is 58.35%, followed by Sumatra at 22.31%, and Kalimantan at 8.22%. Meanwhile, the provinces in Sulawesi only contributed 5.89% and Maluku-Papua 2.21%," he said.

"Everything that has been going on for decades of development, immediately changed the paradigm to development for the region and small people, through the implementation of the Nawa Cita program," said Nurkhasanah.

Building from the region, said AMMI's driving force, in a broad sense does not only mean regional, but also about building human resources that have been marginalized so far.

In May last year, Kompas Research and Development interviewed 400 young respondents, covering the age of 20-39 years. The survey was carried out in five cities in Papua and West Papua, namely Jayapura, Merauke, Sorong, Manokwari and Timika.

As a result, the majority of young people assess the government's performance as very good, even though there are problems in law enforcement and economic conditions which are still homework for the government going forward.
