The majority of Wondama residents become BPJS Health participants
The majority of residents of Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua have received protection through participation in the BPJS Health program provided by the government.
Head of BPJS Kesehatan Manokwari Branch Deny JEP Mase in Isei, Wednesday, said that until now, the residents of Teluk Wondama accommodated by the BPJS Health program are 43,309 people or 96.54 percent of the total population in the region of 44,854 people.
With BPJS Health membership coverage that has penetrated 96.54 percent of the total population, Teluk Wondama Regency has now achieved universal health coverage (UHC) for the JKN-KIS program.
The district, nicknamed the Land of Papuan Civilization, ranks third behind Fakfak and South Manokwari districts as the area with the highest BPJS Health membership coverage in West Papua Province.
"The figure is 43,309 people in Teluk Wondama Regency who have received health insurance or are covered by BPJS Kesehatan out of a total population of 44,854 people. This means that we still have a difference of approximately three to four percent more that we need to achieve," said Deny at the award certificate presentation to the Regency Government. Wondama Bay is located in the Sasana Karya Hall in Isei.
According to him, Teluk Wondama Regency has reached UHC since January 2022.
Responding to this, the Regent of Teluk Wondama Hendrik Mambor stated that the UHC achievement for the JKN-KIS program was a form of the local government's commitment to protecting the community.
Through UHC, every citizen in Teluk Wondama Regency who needs medical services will be served immediately by BPJS Health even though the person concerned has not previously been registered as a participant.
The achievements of UHC will increase public confidence in health services which are the government's task.
For this reason, the Regent of Mambor hopes that all service lines related to public health must be responsive, have high concern and are friendly to all levels of society who need health service assistance.
"The commitment of the local government, especially the social service, the Dukcapil and Health Offices, the puskesmas at the district level, the BLUD RSUD and BPJS must be maintained and must be ready to serve and be able to work as much as possible to serve the people of Teluk Wondama," he said.
He added that UHC, which guarantees fair health services for every citizen and also at low cost, must be implemented immediately so that Wondama people from all walks of life can experience adequate health services.
"This is very important, especially when we are faced with a weak economic condition. For this reason, the government needs to take steps, especially to provide guarantees to the community to be able to get better and more equitable health services," said the number one person in Wondama Regency. .
