Academics mention five points for Papua New Guinea to prosper the community
Al-Azhar University Indonesia (UAI) academic Ujang Komarudin mentioned five important points that support the formation of a new autonomous region (DOB) Papua to realize the welfare of the community. “I see that in Papua there are still a lot of lags. Therefore, with the expansion of the region, there is a new spirit in efforts to improve the welfare of the people. However, it certainly needs some support to make it happen," said Ujang Komarudin in Jakarta Thursday.
The first point, he said, was the importance of having regional leaders and bureaucracies who had the soul to serve the community and were serious, especially in building the new provincial autonomous regions. Don't be an official, you want to be served, even though the concept of civil servants, ASN (state civil apparatus), bureaucracy is to serve. Service coverage should not only be in the office, so it really reaches the community. This is certainly needed in developing regions, including new autonomous regions," he said.
Second, he added, the regional government that is formed later must really be able to realize development, have an anti-corruption spirit, and be able to coordinate well with the central government.
Third, said Ujang, the need for a stable security and public order situation so that all efforts to accelerate the welfare of the community can be realized according to the plan.
Fourth, the support of all parties, including the community, is needed for the three provinces that have just been formed into new autonomous regions, namely the Provinces of South Papua, Central Papua, and Papua Mountains.
Fifth, he suggested that the three new provinces should not rush to hold their first democratic party or general election (election).
He said the regional head elections (pilkada) and legislative elections (pileg) there will only be held if the regions are really ready and the Election Law has been revised. I see that if the Election Law has been changed, they can participate in the election, if the Law has been changed and they are ready, then they can participate. If the election rules are not clear, it is feared that there will be chaos," he said. He also reminded that the most important thing at the beginning of the new DOB administration was that the government had to run in a stable manner, thereby minimizing various development constraints in the three new provinces.
