KKB Performs Massacre in Nduga Papua, Priests Until Ustadz Become Victims



The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) carried out a massacre in the form of shooting people in Nduga, Papua on Saturday (16/7/2022). The atrocities resulted in 10 deaths, including priests and ustadz.

The incident is known to have started when a member of the KKB entered the kiosk belonging to a resident with the initials H Saturday (16/7/2022). Police suspect the attackers numbered 21 people. Carrying a knife, the KKB member ordered the people inside the stall to get out.
 
"(KKB members) ordered people inside the kiosk to come out accompanied by scattering the kiosk goods," said Deputy Chief of Public Relations Ops Damai Cartenz AKBP Arif Irawan, Saturday (16/7/2022), as reported by Detikcom.

Moments later, about 20 other KKB members also arrived at the location. Most of them carried long-barreled firearms with a total of about 15 firearms.

The terrorists then shouted at all the men in the stall to get out. Just then, five men and two women came out of the stall.

They then ordered the two women back into the stall. Meanwhile, five men were massacred and shot to death.
 
"Furthermore, the 5 men were beaten and shot dead," he said.

The joint military and police officers who received the report of the shooting immediately intervened at the location. In the end, 10 people died and two others were injured.

"10 (victims) died, one of them was a priest," said Arif Irawan.

Arif said the priest's body had been handed over to his family. Meanwhile, nine other bodies from outside Papua were evacuated to Moses Kilangin Airport, Mimika, Papua.
 
"Reverend Eliaser was handed over to his family in Kenyam for burial," he said.

Arif condemned the KKB's indiscriminate and very heinous attack.

"It is very vile, indiscriminate, a priest whom we should respect and respect must be a victim of the KKB massacre," he said.
 
In addition to the priest, an ustadz was also a victim in the incident. The figure of the Ustadz who became the victim was Ustadz Daeng Marannu. The deceased was a preacher who used to preach at the Kenyam Mosque, Nogolait Village, Nduga Regency, Papua.

According to the Papuan Police, Ustaz Daeng Marannu last preached during the Eid al-Adha sermon on Sunday (10/7/2022) at the Kenyam Mosque.

“Besides Ustadz Daeng Marannu, Pastor Eliaser Banner was also a victim of the shooting. He was shot at when breaking up the persecution by the KKB," said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, in his statement, Sunday (17/7/2022).

The Head of Public Relations and Head of the Ops Public Relations Task Force, Damai Cartenz, added that Ustaz Daeng Marannu's body would be flown to his hometown in South Sulawesi.

Kamal explained that the conditions in Kampung Nogolait gradually became conducive. A number of officers are on standby at the location to guard and anticipate any unwanted events.

“There are already members on duty, and this case is still under investigation. We and related parties will try our best to arrest the perpetrators so that they can be brought to justice in accordance with applicable law," he said.

Massacre Chronology
The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, explained that the massacre by the KKB occurred at 09.15 WIT. At that time the victims were said to be in the vicinity of the shooting location, some were riding in a truck and some were selling in a shop.

"The incident started with one of the victims who is a grocery trader, seven other people who were in the truck and four others who were around the crime scene," said Kamal in his statement, Saturday (16/7/2022).
 
Kamal said the seven victims who were riding in a truck were traveling from Kenyam Village to Batas Batu. Suddenly the victim's truck was blocked by dozens of KKB members, pointing their guns.

"When passing through Nogolait Village, at that time, they were suddenly blocked in the middle of the road approximately 50 meters away by KKB with a total of about 20 (twenty) people with three people carrying long firearms and one person carrying a silver short weapon," said Kamal.

Suddenly the truck driver stopped. Dozens of KKB members then opened fire at the truck.

“When the car stopped, it was shot directly at the car at a distance of approximately 50 meters. The driver tried to reverse the car with a distance of approximately 100 meters, then he was shot at the car that hit the driver, “explained Kamal.
