Mahfud Government Targets in 3 New Papua Provinces Formed by 2023

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD targets the government in the three new provinces in Papua to be completed by early 2023. Friday (29/7).

“This new autonomous region in Papua is also his own work. Because it is related to many things. One, with the formation of three new autonomous regions, it means that by early 2023 the government must have formed," Mahfud said in his statement.

Mahfud assessed that the formation of government in the three new autonomous regions in Papua needed good coordination. Thus, the government will later prepare and map the electoral district (Dapil) and the election process in the new area. "Because the old Election Law has not been regulated," he added.

For information, Papua now has three new provinces, namely South Papua, Central Papua and Papua Mountains. On the other hand, Mahfud requested that the 2024 election must be guarded, coordinated and prepared for the legal process and budget.

"But we have to guard it so it's not wasteful but doesn't make it impossible to walk. Moreover, in a few months, there will be an announcement of a verified political party in the general election, we all have to be ready to protect this country," said Mahfud.

On the other hand, Mahfud also mentioned the importance of coordination regarding the National Capital City (IKN) and DKI Jakarta in relation to political momentum in 2024. He asked for a scheme for how the elections in IKN would be. Do you enter East Kalimantan Province or specifically for IKN?

“The Special Capital Region of Jakarta, which is now also holding the general election, is now no longer the capital city in 2024, are the voters the same? All of this requires good, steady, and measurable coordination, synchronization and control, for example through the Coordination Index like the one we launched today,” he said.
