Manpower and Industry and Trade: delivery of Jayawijaya vegetables to PTFI is still ongoing
The Department of Manpower, Industry and Trade of Jayawijaya Regency said that the delivery of vegetables and fruits from the local area to PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) in Timika is still ongoing.
Head of the Manpower, Industry and Trade Office of Jayawijaya Regency, Lukas Kossay in Wamena, Tuesday, said the cooperation, which has been going on for almost a year, went smoothly according to the agreement.
"We sent chayote and avocado, string beans, cauliflower and it's been almost a year," he said.
According to Lukas, his party sends more chayote vegetables because that is what Freeport is asking for more.
"Every day we send up to one to two tons," he said.
He explained that the vegetables that were sent were the production of traditional farmers and the cultivation method did not use chemical fertilizers.
"There are about several groups from Hitigima, Hepuba, Megapura and Kosihilapok," he said again.
He added that the government collects the materials in the Manpower and Trade Cooperatives and then sends them to Mimika Regency using a subsidized flight route or air toll road.
"We send according to consumer demand, so farmers sell them to cooperatives, then we send them using scales," he said again.
