Call Papua New Guinea Goes As Planned, Moeldoko: Requires Strong Effort

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said the implementation of the New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Papua was proceeding according to the government's plan. Moreover, so far the Indonesian House of Representatives has ratified three draft laws for Papua New Guinea. “DOB is going according to plan. The law already exists, it's just a matter of how it is implemented," said Moeldoko at the Krida Bhakti Building, Veterans, Central Jakarta, Thursday (14/7/2022).

However, Moeldoko said that the realization of the Papua New Guinea takes time because there are many things that must be prepared. In fact, there are still a number of regulations that must be made by the government to be able to prepare three new provinces in Cenderawasih Earth. The three new provinces in question are South Papua, Central Papua and Papua Mountains. "Of course everything takes time, yes, this process requires a strong effort, preparing the people, preparing the infrastructure and regulations. All of them (must be) in good readiness," he said.

DOB Bill Passed

The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia ratified three draft laws on the new autonomous region or the Papua New Guinea Bill in the second level decision making at the plenary session. Three bills were passed to become law, including the Bill on the Formation of South Papua, the Bill on the Formation of Central Papua and the Bill on the Formation of Mountain Papua.

Previously, Doli conveyed two reasons why the three Papua New Guinea Bills had to be ratified immediately on June 30, 2022. The first was related to the budget, where that date was the final deadline for discussion or determination of the 2023 State Budget. the law is completed before the 30th they can already prepare the budget because based on the law it already exists. Because this requires a budget," Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia, Thursday (30/6/2022).

Meanwhile, the second reason is the consequence of the position of high state institutions, such as the DPR, DPD and Provincial DPRD in line with the existence of three new provinces resulting from the division. "But what is clear is that in the current law, we put it in an article which explains that after this there will be a discussion on changes to the law on elections relating to the seat of the DPR RI, the seat of the DPD RI and also the determination of the electoral district," said Doli.

Along with the plan to ratify the three bills, there will be regional expansion with the addition of three new provinces, namely South Papua, Central Papua and Papua Mountains.
