Chico Presents the First BWF Champion Title for Papua
Malaysia Masters 2022 champion Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo presented his inaugural title at the BWF Super World Tour for Papuans who have been praying for him. He hopes that this achievement can inspire the younger generation from his homeland.
"For the people of Indonesia, especially Papua, thank you for your prayers and support so far. Hopefully what I have achieved can be a motivation and inspiration for the children there," said Chico in PP PBSI's official information, Monday (11/7/2022). ).
Chico made history as the first Papuan badminton player to win at the BWF World Tour Super 500 Malaysia Masters, as well as being the first champion in his career as an athlete in the badminton sport.
In addition to specifically dedicating his title to the Papuan people. Not to forget Chico also thanked his family and the Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) who became the main motivation in his career.
"I want to dedicate this title to my parents, mom, dad, brother and sister. All the family, PBSI too, of course. Thank you to Coach Irwansyah, Koh Jonatan, Aa Ginting, Mas Vito, and all the men's singles team," said Pebulu This badminton player was born in Jayapura on June 15, 1998.
Chico secured the title after defeating Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong, with two straight games 22-20, 21-15 at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
"I was a little tense when I entered the field, but thank God I was able to handle it. Finally I was able to play comfortably and relaxed on the field. In the first game the points were tight, I focused point by point and at the critical point I tried to be consistent with the pattern of play. In the second game , the opponent doesn't seem comfortable with the wind winning conditions, so I take advantage of that opportunity," explained Chico.
Chico's journey to win the Malaysia Masters 2022 title can't be said to be easy. After being promoted from qualifying to the main round, Chico was faced with tough opponents such as Lee Cheuk Yiu from Hong Kong, Kantaphon Wangcharoen from Thailand, Lu Guang Zu from China, to his national team mate, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
"Obviously happy and proud to be able to win my first title in the Super 500. I didn't expect to win here but this is also thanks to the preparation that I think is quite good ahead of this tournament. I hope this will be an additional form of confidence going into the next tournaments. more comfortable in every game," explained Chico.
