Regent of Boven Digoel Papua Affirms New Provincial New Guinea to Realize Community Welfare

The regent of Boven Digoel, Papua, Hengky Yaluwo, said that the New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Cenderawasih Earth could create community welfare. "With regional expansion, it can accelerate equitable development and improve public services," he said in a press release reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 13.

According to Hengky, the existence of new autonomous regions can also create job opportunities for indigenous Papuan children. "So we welcome the government's decision to ratify three new provinces in Papua," he said.

His party invites the younger generation in Cenderawasih Earth to take on a role, namely taking advantage of the formation of new autonomous regions to catch up. "We hope that the new autonomous regions can facilitate the reach of government services to the people," he said. As previously reported, the DPR has ratified a draft law (RUU) on the formation of new autonomous regions in Papua, namely Central Papua Province, Central Highlands Papua Province and South Papua Province.

The expansion is a mandate from Law Number 2 of 2021 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua, especially article 76 that the division must pay attention to political, administrative, legal, unitary, socio-cultural aspects, readiness of human resources, basic infrastructure and economic capacity.
