The Papuan BKKBN encourages regencies and cities to work together to reduce the stunting rate to 16 percent

The Papua Province National Population and Family Planning Agency encourages districts and cities to work together to assist the government in reducing stunting rates to 16 percent by 2024 in Bumi Cenderawasih.

Coordinator of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Stunting Reduction of the Papua Province BKKBN Mochammad Sodiq in Jayapura, Saturday said his party assessed that the synergy developed at the district and city levels with regional apparatus organizations (OPD) was not optimal.

"If this doesn't go well, it will be difficult to achieve the stunting reduction target in Papua," he said.

According to Sodiq, in addition to that, periodic socialization is also needed so that people can understand more about the importance of paying attention to children's growth.

"Understanding of stunting in remote Papuan communities is still low at around 86 percent," he said.

He explained that apart from not optimal coordination between OPDs, the location to each village was also an obstacle to achieving the target.

"We hope that there will be cooperation starting from the relevant OPD level and then the Puskesmas, Posyandu and Family Welfare Empowerment cadres (PKK) to help socialize the importance of paying attention to children's growth and development," he said again.

He added that it is very important to reduce the stunting rate, who else will save the younger generation of Papua, if not from now on, continue to socialize the importance of paying attention to the growth and development of children.
