Commission II of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Agrees on the Proposed Expansion of the Province of Southwest Papua



The DPR RI Commission II Hearing Meeting (RDP) together with the West Papua Provincial Government and the Chair of the Southwest Papua Expansion Acceleration Team agreed on the proposal for the acceleration of the Southwest Papua Province. The chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, explained that legally the draft law had been implemented. His party was present in West Papua at the RDP to ensure the aspirations in question.

“Today, we hear directly the aspirations that have been heard in Jakarta. To accelerate this, we have prepared a draft law," said Ahmad Doli, Thursday, August 25, 2022 in Sorong City. His enthusiasm was extraordinary," he said.

He acknowledged that the aspirations for the acceleration of the new autonomous region were very unanimous and received support from all elements, both the local government and the community.

To follow up on this, his party will prepare a follow-up agenda and it is targeted that in the next two weeks the draft Law level I will be submitted to the leadership of the DPR to be scheduled in a plenary meeting in order to make a decision to become a law in the DPR and the results will be forwarded to the government.

“The presence of the new autonomous region of Southwest Papua Province is an inseparable part in realizing equitable development in Papua. This means that after the birth of a new province in West Papua, it can accelerate the development process in Papua," he explained.
