Jayapura City Government Focuses on Reducing Covid-19 Numbers, Residents Are Urged to Stay Disciplined in Wearing Masks

The Jayapura City Government is focusing on suppressing the number of active cases of Covid-19 which has increased again.

Residents in the capital city of Papua Province are urged to be disciplined in implementing health protocols, while still wearing masks.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Jayapura City Health Office, Dr. Ni Nyoman Sri Antari, to Tribun-Papua.com in Jayapura, Thursday (18/8/2022).

"Yes, our number of active cases continues to increase, as of August 16, 2022 yesterday, there were a total of 147 patients who were still being treated," he said.

Ni Nyoman said that discipline in the process must be a serious concern for all parties, including the community.

"Don't take it lightly, because there is one patient whose symptoms are quite serious and must be treated in the ICU," he urged.

He also revealed that of the 147 patients who tested positive for Covid-19, most of the spread was through local transmission, not from traveling outside the region.

"Since the addition of active cases in Jayapura City, there has been 1 patient who died, for that indeed this must be our common concern," he said.

Asked about the achievements of the Covid-19 vaccination, Ni Nyoman said that currently children are the main target, so the vulnerability of transmission to children is quite low.

"Currently the Covid-19 vaccination in Jayapura City for dose 1 is 75 percent, dose 2 is 55 percent, and dose 3 or booster is still 17 percent," he explained.

Meanwhile, for the elderly it is still the work of the Jayapura City Health Office, to increase their vaccination achievements.

"Therefore, it is still necessary to involve all components, be it religious leaders in places of worship, community leaders and youths to disseminate information regarding the importance of complete Covid-19 vaccination," he explained.

Ni Nyoman said that the Jayapura City Government together with Forkopimda will hold a Covid-19 Handling Evaluation Meeting at the Jayapura Mayor's Office on Friday (19/8/2022).
