Commission II DPR-Minister of Home Affairs to Agree on the Southwest Papua Bill
Commission II of the House of Representatives is scheduled to hold a meeting with the government to make a first-level decision regarding the Bill for the Establishment of the Southwest Papua Province today. The meeting will seek approval from the factions so that the Bill for the Establishment of the Southwest Papua Province can be brought to the plenary and passed into law.
Based on the schedule seen by detikcom, the first level decision-making meeting regarding the Bill for the Establishment of the Southwest Papua Province will also be attended by Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumhan) Yasonna Laoly, Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa, Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani. "The plan is today, later we will start the working committee meeting at 3 o'clock. Later at 4 o'clock there will be a working meeting for taking the first level, which will be attended by the Minister to discuss the bill with the DPR," said Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI Ahmad Doli Kurnia to reporters at parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (12/9/2022).
Doli said that Commission II would send a letter to the leadership of the House of Representatives after making the decision on level I. Commission II hopes that the Bill for the Establishment of the Province of Southwest Papua can be ratified as soon as possible. "After this, we will send a letter to the leadership reporting that a level I decision has been taken. We ask for an immediate agenda at the plenary meeting as soon as possible," he explained.
It is known that the House of Representatives Commission II formed a committee to discuss the Bill for the Establishment of the Southwest Papua Province. The government and the DPR hope that the establishment of the Province of Southwest Papua can accelerate development in the region. Approval for the formation of the Working Committee on the Draft Bill for the Establishment of the Province of Southwest Papua was taken in a working meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of National Development Planning, Minister of Finance, Minister of Law and Human Rights, and DPD RI in Commission II room of the DPR, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (29 /8) then. The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian and MenPPN, Suharso Monoarfa, were present in person.
"We hope that the formation of the new province of Southwest Papua will accelerate development because we can see that the human development index is quite lagging behind and also has a very large area and infrastructure that still needs to be accelerated," said Tito during a meeting with Commission II of the DPR, Monday.
