BDI trains Sorong Regency residents to cultivate seaweed
The Makassar Industrial Training Center (BDI) of the Ministry of Industry trained as many as 30 residents of Sorong Regency, West Papua Province to process seaweed into various types of food.
The head of the Makassar Industrial Education and Training Center, Bagus Herry in Sorong, Tuesday, said that the training held in Sorong on 11-17 October 2022 was a program that was pushed by a member of the DPR RI in the West Papua constituency, Rico Sia.
He said that during the training the participants were taught how to process seaweed into various types of food such as instant noodles, jelly or jelly and other foods according to market needs.
In addition, participants were also taught how to care for and maintain the health of production equipment, as well as how to calculate production capital to determine product prices.
Participants not only get material and practice during the training but also take a competency test to get a work certificate.
This training, he said, is in line with the expectations of the central government, in this case the President, who wants Indonesia not only to export raw materials for seaweed, but also to be able to process them into food products that can be marketed with high value.
Bagus Herry said that after Sorong, the Makassar Industrial Training Center would then provide similar training in Nabire and Wamena regencies in Papua Province.
Member of the DPR RI, Rico Sia, who gave a separate statement, hoped that the 30 training participants would follow the material well so that they could master the knowledge given by the trainers so that they could open their own businesses.
