Papua Becomes a Sports Province Gets the Support of Menpora Amali

Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali encourages and supports Papua Province to get back up through sports.

This was conveyed by Menpora Amali after being an external examiner for Kenius Kogoya's Doctoral Promotion at the Auditorium of Cenderawasih University, Uncen Abepura Campus, Jayapura, Papua.

"So, once again, I as the government and as a professor appreciate what Uncen has done. This is an extraordinary thing and a great thing for how Papua has risen with sport," said Menpora Amali, Monday (24/10/2022).

According to Menpora Amali, sport for indigenous Papuans is a passion, as well as support as has been conveyed by President Joko Widodo who will make Papua a sports province.

“I think this is our collective work but later we will discuss it with the Papuan DPRD, Uncen and the General Chair of Konida Papua, Dr. Kenius Kagoya for how to make Papua a sports province. Because, if this is not followed up, it will be in vain," said the Minister of Youth and Sports.

“I think the results of this research from Kenius Kagoya also show that the Papuan people generally have a passion for sports. And sports become self-respect, and the dignity of native Papuans because in sports there are elements of sportsmanship, discipline, honesty, competition and so on,” he explained.

Moreover, Papua currently has international standard sports facilities. The government will continue to encourage existing facilities not to be idle.

"And we encourage this, especially now that Papua has extraordinary facilities after the last PON, which has facilities that other provinces do not have. So, don't let it go to waste, you can't use it," said the Minister of Youth and Sports.

According to Presidential Decree No. 86 on DBON, the government places Papua as one of the centers for fostering young talents.

“And I emphasize that coaching for talents both at an early age and after that, I immediately attach it to universities. The goal is that in universities there are many human resources, maintenance is certain and there are many users," said the Minister of Youth and Sports

"For Papua, the center is at Cenderawasih University. For sporting events we are discussing with KONI and the Pacific, but because of Covid it didn't happen, but the plan to make family sports among the Pacific countries we continue to push," he concluded.
