The Papuan government plants chilies in an area of 30 hectares

The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Papua planted chilies with a 30-hectare land area in the Pir One area, Yanamaa Village, Keerom Regency, as part of an effort to suppress inflation in Cenderawasih Earth.

Regional Secretary of Papua Province Muhammad Ridwan Ruusukun told Antara in Jayapura, Tuesday, said chili is one of the food ingredients imported from outside so this province should also have an agricultural center area.

"This declaration is also based on the results of our meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) where the Papua Provincial Government took steps to accelerate inflation control," he said.

According to Ridwan, his party now needs 200 hectares of land, because in the future it will not only plant chilies but also tomatoes, shallots and several other commodities.

"For this reason, we, the Papua Provincial Government, are working with the Keerom Regency Government to provide 200 hectares of land, where these three commodities will be planted," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Regent of Keerom Wahfir Kosasih said that his party would support the program from the Papua Provincial Government, considering that in its territory there is still a lot of empty land that can be utilized by farmers.

"We are very happy, because almost 80 percent of people's sources of livelihood are in the agricultural sector, so it is hoped that in the future Keerom Regency will be able to supply these commodities," he said.

His party has also mapped out which areas will become chili barns, then tomatoes in which districts, then shallots and white onions as well so that the results will be maximized.
