The Vice President Visits 4 Provinces in Papua, Checks the Implementation of Special Autonomy



Deputy President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin as chairman of the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy for Papua or the Papua Steering Committee (BPP) made a working visit to the provinces of Papua, South Papua, Central Papua and West Papua starting Monday (28/11/2022) this.

Spokesperson for the Vice President Masduki Baidlowi said that during this working visit, Ma'ruf Amin wanted to ensure the implementation of the Special Autonomy Law for Papua, including the issue of regional expansion.

"In the framework of the initial consolidation in Papua, the Vice President ensures the transition to the implementation of the new Special Autonomy Law, both institutional readiness, local regulations and the new special autonomy budget scenario, which goes directly to the districts/cities," said Masduki in a press statement, Monday.

According to Ma'ruf Amin, regional expansion is a policy instrument that is a breakthrough in bringing public services closer, spanning bureaucratic control, and strengthening the active participation of the community in development.
 
Ma'ruf also wants a comprehensive strategy to encourage Papua's leading commodities, both the agriculture, tourism, fisheries and creative economy sectors.

"During this visit, the Vice President wanted to ensure the upholding of the principle, "No One Left Behind", indigenous Papuans are not left behind, even indigenous Papuans must play a strategic role in accelerating development and special autonomy for Papua," said Masduki.

As quoted from the press release, Ma'ruf Amin and a limited group departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base for Jayapura on Monday morning.

In Jayapura, Ma'ruf Amin will discuss the implementation of the Papua Special Autonomy with the Papuan People's Representative Council (DPRP), the MRP (Papuan People's Assembly), and the Regional Secretary of the Papua Province.
 
Some of Ma'ruf's other agenda in Jayapura included handing over social assistance, handing over his business identification number (NIB), and meeting with the people and children of Papua.

Apart from that, Ma'ruf Amin will also visit a number of areas in Papua, including, Merauke, Timika, Kaimana, and Biak.

After a series of working visits in Papua for 6 days, Ma'ruf Amin will fly to Makassar before returning to Jakarta.
