BI Papua invites residents to use non-cash payments on Christmas Day

The Indonesian Bank Representative Office (KPw) Papua Province invites residents to prioritize non-cash in making transactions at Christmas and New Year 2023 so that the instrument will make payments easier and more efficient.

Head of Bank Indonesia Representative Office for Papua Province Juli Budi Winantya in Jayapura, Friday, said payment system systems including QRIS, electronic money and digital banking using non-cash payments can guarantee more security and can minimize and even avoid crime.

"We are constantly coordinating with banks and related institutions to provide cash and non-cash payment system services to support smooth transactions in the community during Christmas and New Year," he said.

According to Juli, for non-cash transactions in Papua there has been an increase in the implementation of Electronification of Local Government Transactions (ETPD) both in terms of receipts and spending which has helped maintain the amount of cash needed.

"Based on QRIS user data as of November 2022 there were 81,801 users, an increase of 532.3 percent compared to 2021," he said.

He explained that his party hopes that with this Christmas approaching, non-cash transactions will continue to increase, especially now that retail transactions are starting to use QRIS as a payment transaction.

"That way, it is hoped that it will make it easier for the public to make transactions, especially still in a COVID-19 pandemic situation like this," he said again.

He added that ahead of Christmas and the 2023 New Year, BI Papua is preparing IDR 5.3 trillion in cash, which is the same amount as the previous month.

"This is done to meet the cash needs of the Papuan people during Christmas and New Year 2023, which we estimate will be relatively the same compared to the needs of the previous year," he said.
