BI West Papua opens a mobile cash register for Christmas and New Year
Bank Indonesia (BI) West Papua Representative Office prepared a number of strategies to ensure the smooth distribution of money fit for circulation for the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period, including carrying out mobile cash activities in Manokwari Regency and its surroundings.
Head of West Papua BI Representative Rommy Sariu Tamawiwy in Manokwari, Thursday, said his staff had prepared IDR 1.59 trillion to meet the need for rupiah currency suitable for circulation by people in West Papua during the Nataru period.
"This amount has increased by 8.16 percent compared to the realization of the need for rupiah money in the same period the previous year which was recorded at Rp. 1.47 trillion," said Rommy.
The increase in demand for money fit for circulation is in line with the increasing economic activity of people in the West Papua region until the end of the year.
This increase was influenced by the increase in the realization of local government budgets and the fulfillment of community needs ahead of Christmas and New Year.
In addition to opening a mobile cash register in Manokwari Regency, BI has also prepared two Cash Custodians located in Teluk Bintuni Regency and South Sorong Regency. Furthermore, encouraging the optimization of rupiah currency exchange services at the cash counters of each bank office in the West Papua region.
Other efforts are to ensure that all ATMs function and operate properly, prepare to provide rupiah currency at ATM machines periodically and alert banking services to deal with payment transaction disruptions.
Meanwhile, to encourage the public to shop wisely at Christmas and New Year, the West Papua BI Representative Office regularly conducts outreach and education about the Love Proud and Understanding Rupiah movement.
Through this movement, according to him, the community is expected to instill a sense of love and pride for the rupiah as a symbol of the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
"Understand how to shop wisely, and protect Rupiah money by don't fold it, don't cross it, staple it, don't crumple it and don't wet it or 5J," said Rommy.
In line with this, to facilitate payment transactions, the public can take advantage of non-cash payments using debit cards, credit cards, BI-FAST, mobile banking, internet banking, and the QRIS payment channel for transactions that are fast, easy, inexpensive, and safe.
