Officially Increased Southwest Papua, Now Provinces in Indonesia Become 38

The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian officially endorsed a new province in Indonesia, namely Southwest Papua. This inauguration increased the number of provinces in Indonesia to 38.

The inauguration ceremony for the Southwest Papua Province is in accordance with Law Number 29 of 2022.
 
"By the grace of God Almighty today in Jakarta, I am the Minister of Home Affairs on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurating Southwest Papua Province based on Law Number 29 of 2022, may God Almighty bless us all," said Tito in Sasana Bhakti Praja Room, Ministry of Home Affairs Office, Central Jakarta, (9/12/2022).

Apart from that, Tito Karnavian also installed the acting governor of Southwest Papua. That figure is Muhammad Musa'ad.

"With this, I officially inaugurate Muhammad Musa'ad as acting governor of Southwest Papua," he said.
 
Previously, the DPR RI held a plenary meeting to ratify the Draft Law (RUU) concerning the Formation of the Southwest Papua Province into law on Thursday (17/11/2022).

The plenary meeting was chaired directly by the Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament, Puan Maharani.

Puan asked representatives from Commission II to explain the process of ratifying the Southwest Papua Province Bill.

Not long ago, member of Commission II DPR RI Guspardi Gaus came to the pulpit to give an explanation.

"Allow us to submit the Southwest Papua Bill to be ratified together to become a law," said Guspardi at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Thursday (17/11/2022).

After hearing an explanation from Guspardi, Puan asked for approval from all members of the council to pass the Southwest Papua Province Bill.
 
"Next, we asked the faction meeting whether the Southwest Papua New Guinea Bill could be approved to be passed into law?" Puan asked.

"Agreed," answered all DPR members who attended the plenary session.
