The National Library helps the people of Jayawijaya

The National Library is helping the people of Jayawijaya Regency, Highlands Papua Province with a number of reading books, wifi, three computers, a printer, three iron bookshelves and a 50-inch TV.

Head of the Jayawijaya Regency Regional Library and Archives Service, Primus Oagay in Wamena, Wednesday, said that for the past two years the National Library has been distributing these aids.

"In 2021 the focus will be on Pisugi District. There are four villages that receive assistance, namely Phike, Pisugi, Suroba and Aikima Village. The development of the library that is being carried out is related to social inclusion in collaboration with the National Library," he said.

In 2022, the same assistance will be given again, but to the people of three villages, namely Sinarogoma, Pipikmo and Ketimapit. These three villages are in Wouma District.

"The aid that came earlier was three cartons of books and a 50-inch TV, now they are used by the people," he said.

The Jayawijaya government appreciates the National Library's support for developing interest in reading in this region.

He admits that the government's attention is very good to encourage alliteration but it needs the will of the community to move forward together.

"It's funny how our mothers can hold Android cell phones, can communicate with their children who study in Java, this is extraordinary, but they can't read yet, so everyone's awareness is needed," he said.

He asked village government officials to allocate half of the village funds that are routinely received every year, to encourage people's interest to read because in the village funds (DD) there is an allocation for human resource development (HR).

"Half of the village funds could be allocated for the development of the reading library that we have built, but this factor is difficult because once DD is in place, officials immediately claim it belongs to individuals, groups, so we at the library cannot intervene in this part," he said .
